On Saturday, October 19, 2009, the Oak Grove Historical Society met at the Davis Center at 10:00 am.
Vice-President Pat Lewis stated a business meeting would not be held to give time for our speaker, Mr. David L Gilmore, to speak about the Civil War. Mr. Gilmore was autographing books before his presentation.
Mark Fulks had prepared flyers to advertise items to be auctioned on October 24, 2009. He encouraged members to take them and distribute them around the community. He also stated that items could be dropped off at the Davis Center between 1:00 until 5:00 pm on Friday, October 23, 2009.
Pat Lewis thanked Mark Fulks for all the hard work he had put forth to prepare for the auction.
Mr. David L Gilmore spoke about the Civil War on the border between Kansas and Missouri. Mr. Gilmore wrote "Civil War on the Missouri-Kansas Border" and "Riding Vengeance with the James Gang". He was a technical consultant for the movie, "Ride with the Devil". There are articles writen by him regarding the border wars in "Journal of the West", "History Today" and "Wild West". After his presentation, Mr. Gilmore answered questions posed by those in attendance.
