Oak Grove Historical Society



Meeting Minutes
September 20, 2008


The Oak Grove Historical Society met Saturday, September 20th in the Davis Building. Meeting was called to order by President Karen Findley. Speaker Al Hale returned to continue his program. Mr. Hale displayed confederate flags, and other artifacts from the Civil War period. He also spoke about medical care of the time period.

Minutes were read and approved. Treasurer's report was $5,064.00 less $500.00 check sent as a deposit on the 2008 Christmas ornaments.

Karen reported that 250 Christmas ornaments have been ordered. They will be shipped to CeCe and she will distribute to members. Ornaments will be glass and sell at the same $10.00 price as last year. Karen reported that some 2007 ornaments are left and ask each member to take a couple of those, as buyers may want both year ornaments.

There was a discussion about the Christmas open house. Karen has requested the use of the historical society's regular meeting room for December 20th. She is waiting on a response from Parks and Recreation department.

Vice-President Bryan Hord spoke about the old jail. Mrs. Jenny Reichoff has verbally committed to donating the jail to the Historcial Soceity. Bryan and Greg McLallen have looked at the structure and recommend taking the jail apart, brick by brick, numbering the bricks and storing until a permanent "home" is acquired. Mark Fulks said the jail may be on a separate lot in the legal description. He will check on this and report to Bryan Hord. Mark Fulks also spoke about the Arnone property and it's possible uses. The president ask for volunteers to serve with Bryan on the jail project and appointed Barbara Lefholz, Mark Fulks and Greg McLallan. Barbara will speak with Mrs. Reichoff about deeding the lot (if separate) to the historical society.

Mark Fulks requested a speaking time in October.

Barbara Griffith announced an open house at the Odessa Historical Society on Sunday. Karen discussed a history book sent to her that is published by the Odessa Historical Society.

Kathleen Baer brought an old Oak Grove Banner with photos of the Oak Grove depot and trains.

Discussion about storage cabinets and a safe was held. Mark Fulks will check on this. Meeting was adjourned.
