Meeting Minutes
August 15, 2009


The Oak Grove Historical Society met August 15, 2009 at the Davis Center. Vice-President Pat Lewis called the meeting to order.

Recording Secretary Louise Shore read the minutes of the July meeting. Margie Morrison made the motion to accept the minutes as read. Hollis Dyer seconded the motion. The minutes were approved.

Treasurer CeCe Morgan reported that the balance in the account was $6765.20. Pat Lewis explained that Glen and Pat had purchased a copier to be used for copying photos or documents on copy paper or photo paper.

Karen Findley reported on the 2009 Christmas ornament. She circulated a sample of the Dr. William F. Frick home that will be imprinted on an emerald green glass ornament. Margie Morrison made the motion that we accept the ornament as displayed with a selling price of $10.00. CeCe seconded the motion. Motion carried. Becky Dyer made the motion to order 250 ornaments. Barbara Griffith seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Karen Findley reported that David Jackson, Director of Archives and Education at the Jackson County (MO) Historical Society would gladly publicize any of our events via their website. He stated that we might wish to bookmark the site "Jacomo Bookmark at http://www.jchs.org/education/jacomo_bookmark.htm .

Pat Lewis posed the question regarding future fundraiser projects. Several ideas were expressed. Mark Fulks suggested an auction, or possibly sponsoring an art show; Becky Dyer suggested afghans or cookbooks. The consensus of the group was to have an auction sometime in the fall. Karen Findley stated she was having an antique booth at Greenwood, MO on Labor Day weekend. She would be willing to place flyers in her booth promoting the auction. It will be open to the public to donate and Oak Grove Historical Society members will be called upon to donate what they can. The telephone tree will be used to contact Society members. There is to be no clothing, appliances or electrical items. If items do not sell, the person donating the item must pick it up and dispose of the item. Items will be tax deductible. The location is tentatively set to be at the Davis Center. The date will be Saturday, October 24, 2009. Possible advertising sites will be Focus on Oak Grove, Comcast Public Service Channel, and flyers at the Citywide Garage Sale and Karen Findley's antique booth.

Clay Barton is filing the 2009 annual registration for the Society. There is a fee. CeCe Morgan is to check on the cost of the fee.

Karen Findley reported that the 501C forms have been received by the IRS. A response should be arriving within 90 days.

The Oak Grove Historical Society will continue meeting at the Davis Center until further notice.

Pat Lewis stated that next month a speaker will present a program and we need to follow up on the trip to Arrow Rock.

Karen Findley asked about a work day at the Vestal site.

Mark Fulks challenged the group to bring a prospective member to the next meeting in September.

Barbara Griffith made the motion to adjourn. Donna Rice seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned.
