Oak Grove Historical Society

Meeting Minutes
April 23, 2009

A special meeting was called by President Greg McLallen of the Oak Grove Historical Society on April 23, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at the Davis Center. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the findings the building committee had regarding the property at 204 SW 10th Street. President McLallen asked the group what their wishes were regarding a possible offer to purchase the property. The representative of Financial was asking $16,000 for the property. Discussion followed regarding the condition of the building and cost of purchasing the site.

The Vestal Hardware building was also discussed as a possible site. The price for the building at the present time is listed as $140,000. There are two businesses renting the building at the present time, but there is space in the back for possible use by the Historical Society.

Barbara Griffith made a motion that we make a bid of $10,000 on the 10th Street site. Evelyn Church seconded the motion. After some discussion, Barbara Griffith withdrew the motion.

A suggestion was made that Greg McLallen and the city inspector, Tony Adams, visit the site and determine what improvements would be necessary to bring the property up to city code standards.

Glen Lewis expressed the opinion that the Society needed to establish its non-profit status before we actually made any offers on possible sites. Wallace Johnson was asked to call Marsha Hord to set up an appointment time for Karen Findley and Greg McLallen to meet with her to complete the necessary paperwork to apply for non-profit status.

Karen Findley had sent a message that one of the CDs was due April 29, 2009 with a ten day grace period. Its value is $2070 plus interest. Karen needs to be notified before then if she needs to take any action regarding the CD.

Mark Fulks stated that if the Historical Society made an offer on the Vestal Hardware building of $125,000 at an interest rate of 6% for 20 years, the payment would be $895 per month. This would not include taxes or insurance. There would be rental income from the occupants of the two businesses. An offer could be made with the condition that the offer would only be valid if the group were able to get financing. He also stated that the Max Swisegood property was asking $90,000, but an offer of $75,000 at an interest rate of 6% for 20 years would be $515 per month payment. This would not include taxes or insurance or utilities.

Greg McLallen was to meet with the city inspector and report at the May 16 meeting.

Meeting was adjourned.
