Oak Grove Historical Society

Meeting Minutes
February 21, 2009

The Oak Grove Historical Society met February 21, 2009 at the Davis Center.

A presentation was made by Bob Eckhoff from the Anderson House and Lexington Battlefield in Lexington, MO. He portrayed different personalities that would have lived during the Civil Ward Battle of Lexington. One character was Private Isaac Neill. He shared items soldiers would carry with them as well as proper etiquette during that era. He had many items that were used by soldiers and civilians. He explained and demonstrated these items with those in attendance.

President Greg McLallen called the meeting to order. The minutes were read and approved.

Karen Findley requested members pick up the Oak Grove Historical Society handbook for updates they might need. Karen Findley had been contacted by the Oak Grove Rehab Center regarding a deceased resident. There were no surviving family members. He had a 1950's Army uniform that the Oak Grove Historical Society might want for their collection. Carol Grote would store the uniform with clothing she has in her collection until a place is available to display such items. Karen Findley had contacted the Clinton Historical Society for a coy of their operating notebook used to record donated items. Items would be numbered so a record would be available as to the name of the donor and the type of item donated. Karen suggested that President McLallen appoint a committee to create such a notebook to keep records of items donated to the Oak Grove Historical Society.

Cece Morgan reminded members to return any Christmas ornaments they still had in their possession.

Karen Findley stated Bryan Hord had purchased a two drawer fireproof file cabinet for the Oak Grove Historical Society's use.

Karen Findley invited the members to attend a potlock dinner at their home for the May 16th meeting. She suggested they bring a guest as a potential member.

Treasurer Evelyn Church stated there is a balance of $6747.60 in the treasury. She received a statement that the CD had accumulated interest of $141.40.

Pat Lewis made a motion to send a $50.00 donation to Anderson House in appreciation of Bob Eckhoff's presentation. The treasurer presented the recording secretary a check for the amount. The recording secretary would send a thank you note along with the donation to Anderson House.

Hollis Dyer made a motion that we accept the invitation to the Findley's home for the May meeting.

The meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,
Louise Shore, Recording Secretary
