Oak Grove Historical Society met February 16, 2008 at the Davis Center.
President Karen Findley opened the meeting. Minutes were read, corrected and approved. Treasurer reported a balance of $3,838.93. Karen thanked Betty and Wallace Johnson for buying a new coffee maker for the group.
Karen reported on items donated to the society. The society does not want to take items on loan. Release forms will be prepared so donors can sign items over to the Historical Society. A steel fire-proof cabinet is needed to safeguard donated items. Karen is preparing a booklet for each member. The by laws, and members information was checked for accuracy.
Programs for the year were discussed with many interesting destinations mentioned. Dianne Hord will make covers for booklets.
The Historical Society's by laws were changed when the society was reorganized. The number of board members was decreased from twelve to seven. Board members are to include the five officers and two at large members. Evelyn Church and Joyce McCrander were nominated and elected to serve as at large members of the board. This action completed the executive board. Executive board will meet twice a year.
Marcia is still working on the Federal Tax Exemption Number.
Barbara Griffith reminded everyone to talk to people about purchasing the commemorative plaques.
Karen had made copies of photos and has started placing them in scrapbooks. She needs help in identifying some of them. Newspaper articles needs to be placed in a scrapbook. Bryan asked for any history on the railroads and also wants items and information on Bates City. Photos are needed of the old skating rink and Steigmeyer's Feed Store.
Wallace Johnson suggested putting an ad in the Focus for old photos.
Business portion of the meeting was adjourned to work on scrapbooks.
The next meeting will meet March 16, 2008.
