Bryan Hord had met a man at the Brass Armadillo in Grain Valley. This gentleman was signing a book that he and his wife had written about his parent's experiences during the Holocaust. Bryan wondered if there was enough interest to ask the gentleman to speak. The group agreed to have Bryan contact the man and see if he could speak at the February meeting. If the date is acceptable, other historical societies will be contacted and advertising for the event will proceed.
Wallace Johnson read a selection from the Webb Family Tree book. The event took place during the Civil War.
The election of officers resulted in the following persons being elected: President - Pat Lewis, Vice-President - Bryan Hord, Treasurer - CeCe Morgan, Recording Secretary - Louise Shore, Corresponding Secretary - Joyce McCrander, and Executive Board Members - Karen Findley and Carol Grote.
Karen Findley had seen a photo of the Oak Grove Train Depot on display at the Brass Armadillo. It was a different view than the one on the Christmas ornamant. She suggested members go look at it and that we purchase it for our collection. There was to be 20% off sale and she thought maybe we could purchase if cheaper. She was going to check and possibly purchase it.
CeCe Morgan and Karen Findley thought a good fundraiser might be to prepare a Historical Book about Oak Grove to sell. It would be a two year plan to which a committee would meet monthly. The Town and Country book on the History of Oak Grove is no longer in print or available for purchase. The group seemed to be in agreement about forming the committee. Members of the committee are Karen Findley, CeCe Morgan, Barbara Lafholz, Wallace Johnson, Mary Turner, and Joyce McCrander. Joyce's hometown is preparing such a book. Joyce shared some of the items they included. The first meeting will be held at Karen Findley's home on Monday, February 8, 2010 at 10:00 am.

Bryan Hord and Greg McLallen have been looking into cost and supplies needed. Ron Hackley has looked at the project and made suggestions along with Sam ??. The steel beams and posts would be approximately $800. Lumber and other materials might be about $600-$800. Hollis Dyer made the motion to authorize the officers of the Oak Grove Historical Society to instruct Bryan Hord the Greg McClellan to proceed on getting cost estimates and meet with Tony, City Inspector, to see what needs to be done for the repairs to move forward.
